Hemorrhoids relief
Hemorrhoids, or piles in normal usage, could be defined as swelling and inflammation of the veins in the rectal and anal region, which at times can be extremely painful, making it impossible for the person to carry on with his normal daily activities. Hemorrhoids are very common in adults and scores of people have suffered from them at one time or other during their life time. Hemorrhoids can be treated at home with the help of certain medicines and natural remedies. But, if they are extremely painful and unmanageable, the only alternative left with the patient would be to remove them surgically, hemorrhoidectomy. Surgery is usually carried out when no other treatment works on the patient. This is normally an outpatient surgery, where the patient is given local anesthesia and the dressing is done once the hemorrhoids are removed. The patient is normally asked to go home the same day.
The patient, whose hemorrhoids have been removed, requires around 2-3 weeks recuperating, as he feels immense pain in the area. Pain killers may cause constipation and hence one must take care to minimize the intake of pain killers. Hence, a simple dose of Tylenol or OTC drug would be better than high dosage of pain killers. With surgery, nine out of ten patients have not experienced relapse of the problem, whereas in some cases, the hemorrhoids are known to recur depending on their life styles. Post surgery pain is known to be very severe, putting the patient to lot of inconvenience while using the bathroom, but then this temporary pain is preferable to suffering for life time. One may have to take lot of fiber, water and sometimes stool softener too in order to lessen the pain and avoid constipation. Using ice packs in the region for first few days followed by heat pack for the next few days are recommended to reduce the swelling and pain. Including lot of fiber and water in the diet to avoid constipation helps you to recover soon.
Suffering hemorrhoid pain can be extremely unbearable for many people. Traditional cures do not always work; perhaps you have already started drinking 8 glasses of water a day or stopped eating spicy food.
